Does anyone else find it odd that I saw the same number of movies as I read books?
Favorite book read for the first time--Sex Lives of Cannibals. Highly recommended. Not sure which was my fave film seen for the first time this year. Possibly Volver, 3:10 to Yuma or Hot Fuzz.

Other interesting analysis: while I read the same number of books last year and this year, I saw far fewer films this year than last, most likely because of the lack of influence of the Bad Ex. Whenever the PIG and I try to watch a film at home, I fall promptly asleep. Mmmm, sleep.

last day

Today is the last day of my first semester as a teacher. Grades are turned in, the place is sorta kinda cleaned up, presents have been toted and thank yous written, and now I am waiting for my colleague to finish up so we can go have lunch.

I am going to miss my little ones over the break, but a break I do need.

We spent yesterday at Galveston, thanks to a grant from BP, and most of the kids had a rockin' time on the boat, taking pictures, gawking at specimens from the benthic zone and keeping a sharp eye peeled for shark fins. (I felt off all day because I had to take dramamine. I love that that stuff keeps me from getting motion sickness, but I hate what it does to my brain.) I got to help my kids pick out souvenirs in the gift shop at the end of the day. Some of them knew how much money they had and could figure out if they had enough, but some needed help counting their money and making price comparisons. There was much discussion about what a prism is and how it works, which made my science-heart happy. My favorite kids are the ones who are always asking questions like that.

sooonnn offff aaaaa.....

Who is Pete, and why does he need so much love?

Just over a year ago, I lost one of my best friends. It was over something fairly dumb and thoughtless but for her it was over something meaningful and hurtful. I think about her frequently but we've never made up. I've given up the hope that she will one day contact me and I know from experience that even if she did, our relationship would never be the same. Nevertheless, I feel sad and regretful. Also one year ago I was trying so hard to date one of my friends and it just was not working out. It's hard to understand why those friend-relationships don't work sometimes and do others.

In other news, I am a lucky gal who spent her day "giving back" and doing it with such a fun bunch of kids. I'm about to head off for an evening of weird film/music and I'm doing it with my sweet baboo.

"you will get an A on the next test in your life"

Oh jeez, I'm becoming One of Those People. You know the ones. They rarely write anything of substance but constantly post results of silly internet quizzes.

Well, sorry folks, I'm kinda busy now but I do have time for the occasional quiz, especially the insightful ones:
