booooo

To all of you who've been rooting for me in the Great Future In-Law Decathalon of 2007, I'm sorry to report that the event has been called a forfeit.

They're in town for the next three weeks so I will have lots of free time until their departure. Call me, email me, let's fix up a date.

last night i had the strangest...

...dream.

In this dream, a man had built a small apartment in the basement of my house, without my knowledge. I know, I know, how could that have happened without me noticing? Realistically it could not have, especially as I do not have a basement, this being southeast Texas and all. The person who did was an old colleague of mine, with the initials R.K. for anyone who's keeping score, which made it all the more hilarious in a sense of entitlement on his part and sense of outrage on my part.

I'm sure Freudian dream interpretation would have a field day with this particular nighttime fantasy. Leave yours in the comments.

stiff and nonsense

Just home from a dear friend's birthday party. The theme was a staged funeral, with my friend lying in a casket while we read or spoke our eulogies and memories, followed by a lot of food, bobbing for reasons to live, a scream contest and a swift game of pin-the-spirit-on-the-non-corporeal-being.

Hearing what everyone had to say about this friend made me realize two things. One is that I am Very Boring in general and the second is that I should treasure every minute with her because she's...so many adjectives that I cannot choose one or a few to describe her adequately.

In other news, my ankle is slightly less swollen and my leg is incredibly itchy from being wrapped all day for the past few days. Also itchy are my muscles. They want to run!

dumb ankle

I was chasing one of my kids around outside (playing!) and I twisted my ankle severely. It was such a dumb thing to do because A. I have tennis shoes under my desk but didn't bother to put them on and B. I am supposed to be training for a marathon, not hurting myself.

Anyway, I am on my way home in a minute to put up my feets.

snowed under

Another long week has passed. Passed in the sense that it is Friday afternoon and I am off the clock in less than an hour. In another sense, however, the week lingers. There is much work undone: a warehouse full of stuff to be sorted and priced; items for sale online that suddenly I am in charge of; grades to be figured; work samples to send home; a large truckload of decisions to be made.

Sigh.

And that is not even mentioning the paperwork I'm behind on filing for all of the businesses I help run here. Those of you who know me from an earlier life know that I tend to let paperwork pile up until shifting around piles becomes more onerous than actually sorting it out and putting it away. I am currently hiding a LOT of paper in my big drawer.

Hmm.
